Denver, Colorado is exactly one mile above sea level; therefore, it is
named the Mile-High City. It is located near the Southern Rocky
Mountains and is named after the Kansas Territorial Governor James
Denver. The weather is generally mild with lots of sunshine year
round. It has spectacular mountains as a backdrop.
Gold was the original attraction to the area, during the Pikes Peak Gold Rush. But Denver has developed into a city with a diverse culture, multiple sports teams, and year-round events. There are galleries, museums, shops, and restaurants of all kinds. Bike paths are available throughout the city, and there are over 200 parks. The nearby Rocky Mountains provide skiing and mountain climbing. Economically, Denver is a well-placed distribution center for goods and services, located about halfway between Midwest cities and those on the West Coast.
