The Thomas Jefferson Memorial is located in Washington, DC, next to the Tidal Basin in East Potomac Park.  The structure is colonnaded and circular with a rotunda, a style Jefferson introduced, and was dedicated on April 13, 1943.  It pays tribute to Thomas Jefferson, the author of the Declaration of Independence and President of the USA from 1801 to 1809.  The statue of Jefferson in the interior of the memorial is cast from bronze, and Japanese cherry trees surround the building.

The Jefferson Memorial is administered by the National Park Service.  The idea for it was proposed by President Franklin Delano Roosevelt.  The was designed by John Russell Pope, and is made from Vermont marble as well as Georgia limestone and marble.
